Whitening methods have develop tremendously during the last 30 years when teeth whitening has been in fashion. At first only whitening gel was used and later hardening the teeth with plasma light was added to complement the gel. Zoom method has been popular, but the results of Zoom have been questioned. In addition to that many patients have complained having sharp teeth pain for weeks after being treated with Zoom.

At our clinic we use Sapphire Plus Plasma Whitening method, which is one of the most effective ones on the market and the treatment is considerably more comfortable to the patient than Zoom. With Sapphire Whitening the patient will not have that sharp teeth pain that is often connected to the Zoom method. Only very mild teeth pain can be present with young patients, but in these cases the patient will get calming gel to take home with them after the treatment.

The Sapphire uses blue plasma light, which means that the skin does not need to be protected from harmful radiation like with Zoom whitening. After the whitening it is advisable to avoid any drinks and foods that stain (e.g. coffee, strong tea and blueberries) for 24 hours. Plasma whitening can be done also to individual teeth and the whitening redone to the darker teeth then within a couple of months and otherwise every year or two if necessary.
